THE Swedish woman at the centre of the sexual assault charges that led to today’s arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been identified as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Lisbeth Salander.

Australian citizen Assange, 39, has been remanded in custody after appearing at a London magistrates’ court today on a Swedish extradition warrant issued by Interpol.

It is alleged that he sexually assaulted a woman, the identity of whom has been confirmed as Lisbeth Salander, also known as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a computer hacker working for Wikileaks at the time.

The Swedish authorities took the unprecedented step of releasing details of the alleged victim’s identity in order to dispel rumours that the charges against Assange are linked to the recent publishing of US Embassy cables.

Marianne Ny, the Swedish prosecutor, gave details of the allegations against the Wikileaks founder.

She said: “There is speculation that the charges against Mr. Assange have been fabricated and are a thinly-veiled attack on Wikileaks for its recent release of US diplomatic cables.

“We have therefore decided to identify the alleged victim in the case to prove that the charges are genuine and that these rumours are a work of fiction.”

The offences are alleged to have taken place in the Swedish city of Gothenburg when Assange and Salander were investigating police corruption for Wikileaks.

Geoffrey Anderson from Wikileaks said: “We have been in contact with Julian and he has informed us of the full details of the charges against him.

“However it would be totally inappropriate for us to divulge that kind of confidential information to the press.”

Simon Cowell took advice on vote rigging from Russian Government

Some of the suggestions the Russians came up with to sway the results were deemed to be too extreme.

SIMON Cowell sought advice from the Russian government on vote rigging, according to the latest batch of leaked memos from whistle-blowing website Wikileaks.

The X Factor supremo is reported to have contacted officials at Russia’s Central Electoral Commission for advice on how to rig a vote in the most blatantly obvious way.

The allegations come following the elimination of morbidly obese X Factor contestant Mary Byrne at the hands of the show’s judging panel, despite viewers previously being told by host Dermot O’Leary that the result would be decided purely by public vote.

Irate viewers complained that the sing-off and judges’ vote were introduced at the last-minute to save recovering crystal meth addict Cher Lloyd from being axed.

Sergey Semenov from the Central Electoral Commission confirmed that he had been approached by individuals from ITV for consultancy on electoral fraud, as the Russians are world-leaders in the field.

He said: “We suggested several techniques ITV could use in the context of a reality television show to manipulate the results in a way that is blatantly obvious to viewers, but not quite blatant enough to result in censure from media regulators.

“We don’t have media regulators in Russia. In post-Soviet Russia, media regulates you.”

The alleged manipulations on the X Factor include: ensuring that Cowell’s favoured contestants dominate media coverage, are given the coveted end slot in the performance running order, and are given the best song choices even if they don’t conform to the week’s theme.

And are also allowed to mime to pre-recorded backing vocals through most of their performances while the rest of the contestants have to sing live.

However, some of the Russians’ suggestions – such as incarcerating opponents on trumped-up charges, or eliminating them – were deemed by Cowell to be too extreme, even by his standards.

“We told Cowell where he can get some polonium at an excellent price.” Semenov added.

The leaked communications include a series of emails sent between Simon Cowell and the X Factor production team.

In an email sent in August, Cowell writes: “Secretly manipulating the results as we have in previous series is potentially just not enough anymore.

“This year I want to make our utter contempt for the viewers at home crystal clear.”

The emails also reveal that after the roaring success of this year’s manipulations, Cowell is already in talks with ITV and the Russians on how they can develop the blatant result rigging in the coming series.

“I’m thinking next year Dermot will have an envelope with the results of the public vote, and instead of reading it out, will rip it up and throw the pieces in the air,” Cowell writes.

“And then I will personally eliminate a contestant of my choice by pulling a giant lever that releases a trap door beneath their feet.

“Then we will show a VT of me exchanging bags of the viewers’ phone vote cash for an obscene amount of cocaine that I then proceed to snort off the bare arse of Katie Waissel’s prostitute grandmother.

“Just so they can see where their money really goes.”

There are also allegations abound that viewers have been intimidated into voting for certain contestants.

74 year-old retired schoolteacher Miriam Salter from Surrey said: “I received a telephone call on Saturday night from a very abusive young lady shouting: ‘Oi bitch, you better vote for Cher Lloyd tonight, yeh, or I’ll set your fucking house on fire.’

“I’m not very good at placing accents, but it sounded like the voice of a 17 year-old girl native to the Malvern area, if I’m not mistaken.”

Snow disrupts Katie Price’s dangerous driving

HEAVY snowfall has caused travel chaos for glamour model Katie Price, preventing her from pursuing her favourite pastime of dangerous driving.

A blanket of snow over a foot deep has completely blocked roads around Price’s country mansion in Quim-upon-Thames, Surrey.

The buxom model had been looking forward to violating the six month driving ban she received on Monday for speeding.

She said: “I had just got my driving ban and was really looking forward to totally ignoring it and driving anyway, as dangerously as ever.

“The fact the police had also advised against all but essential road use made driving all the more tantalising. Fucking snow.

The Booker Prize winning author now has 13 points on her licence following Monday’s conviction of speeding.

Her solicitor, Jack Danielson, told the court she was being pursued by photographers when she was caught speeding along the 70 mph road.

“About nine minutes before she was caught, she pulled over and, in a state of expressionless exasperation, asked that another Police officer could have a word with a couple of members of the paparazzi who were following her and then maybe jizz on her tits if he wanted because she loves a man in uniform” he said.

In September Price was found guilty of not being in proper control of her pink horsebox after veering into another lane while driving on a Sussex road.

Price admitted in court that she had been distracted while driving as she was pleasuring herself with a rolled-up copy of Closer magazine, while simultaneously texting on her mobile phone.

Price said: “So what if I’ve got lots of points on my licence. You know what they say: ‘Points mean prizes’. And prize sounds like Price. If the Price is Right. Yep.

“Best selling author, me.”

Price has blasted her local council for failing to prepare for the wintry weather and grit the roads in time.

“All I want to do is be able to go about my normal daily business of violating every rule in the Highway Code and risking the lives of myself, my children, other road users, pedestrians, and animals.

“I’m not against snow completely, I mean a bit of snow makes driving even more dangerous, which is fantastic.

“About 9 inches is enough for me. Nice and deep.”
